Family room.

"Before" picture.

I fell in love with all the light streaming into this room. I adored our last little house, but one thing that always bugged me, was how dark the family room was. It didn't help one bit that I had decorated with darker colors. And we normally kept the blinds mostly closed in there for more privacy.
So, when we moved in I immediately started thinking of all the fun things I could do with this bright room. I have always wanted a family room with neutral colors for two reasons.
1- I tend to change my mind a lot. I see a cute pillow with new colors and immediately I want to re-do the entire room. all for that pillow. ;)
and 2- I'm constantly taking new favorite pictures with new colors and want to blow them up huge and frame them. Only in my last family room, with the dark colors, that didn't always look so great.
I was bound and determined to find a canvas of colors that would work with any pillow or any new favorite pictures I want to display. I can't tell you how many times I have sat with my feet tucked in the warm sand at the beach and thought to myself that it's the most beautiful place on earth.
This picture has always been one of my favorites... It reminds me of a beautiful day spent with my family at one of our favorite beaches near where we live.
I love the blues, soft grays, warm beige's, soft whites...
So this was my color palette for my new room. To me, any color on top of this (especially bright colors that I love to photograph) look amazing with these colors. Think of pops of coral, yellow or even different shades of blue.
So then I played around a little on pinterest... and got to work. So, here it is all put together and finished. We love it.
